A Message from the Pastor

Wecome to the Belle View Baptist website. We are a small community of faith with a rich history and heritage. Belle View was the first Baptist church in the Baptist General Association of Virginia to admit African Americans to full membership. At a time when massive resistance to integration was the norm in Virginia, the pastor and people of Belle View took a stand for justice and the proclamation of the Gospel for all people, regardless of race. As we celebrate over fifty years of ministry in South Alexandria and Fairfax County, we are committed to living this Gospel in worship, in service to our community, and in our daily lives.

Like many congregations of all denominations, Belle View has been through a long period of declining membership. We are growing again. I first came to the church four years ago as a four-week supply pastor. From the beginning, I sensed their deep faith, their warmth, and their concern for one another. When they asked me to stay as their permanent pastor, I unhesitatingly accepted.

There is a wonderful term in sociology, the "third place." It refers to our need for a place where we belong, where we have meaning outside of the home and our work place. Belle View is just such a place. If you are looking for Christian community in the midst of Washington's sprawl -- your third place -- pay us a visit. I think you will be glad you did.
